This pub is now called The Red Kite.
We visited on 13 June 2013 at approx 5pm
Bar looked decent with good views.
Barmaid was very friendly and welcoming, however food standard poor.
I had the 2 course special before 6pm a very skimpy roast of the day and starter of potato skins served together as my companion had a one course standard menu offering.
I can say that my roast ranks second in the worst ive ever had stakes!
It would of ranked as the worst had it not been for the potato skins starter that accompanied it to act as roast potatoes, small portions and a miniscule amount of gravy to go with it. and a stone cold in middle Yorkshire pudding. No staff came round to to ask if meal was ok etc.
A glance at the salad that accompanied my starter mid through the meal set off alarm bells. Lettuce was orange round the edge through going off, black in places and also mushy liquid! How was this not noticed by kitchen prior to serving its pretty basic? Salad on companions plate was similar ! What does that say to you about the kitchen?
Companions main would of ranked as decent if not for that huge error with rotten salad.
Anyway when finally some one came round to clear the table and asked if all was well I said no its not and that the salad should of been served to the bin, certainly not a paying customer and was disgusting. The waiter went to consult chef who offered complimentary desserts which I declined so I was told that one main would be deducted from the bill which it was.
Was it an off day ? I don't know.
would I eat there again ? NO
I wouldn't risk that level of basic incompetence serving food.
It was not busy, there was just one couple in the restaurant area where we were. Its such a shame as its very well placed for walkers on the Derwent walk.
Owner needs to urgently get kitchen staff that care about service and customer health and reputation.
