theCUT
TheCUT is Newcastle's longest-standing alternative inner-city nightclub, tucked away on St Nicholas' Street beside the cathedral. Designed in the spirit of Berlin squat parties and New York loft warehouses, the distressed industrial space pairs a Funktion One sound system with a 400-capacity main room and the 100-capacity Loja SkyBar above — 500 in total. For over 16 years it has been a cornerstone of the city's underground electronic scene, hosting house, techno, drum & bass and bass-music line-ups alongside Jukebox, Newcastle's longest-running weekly indie / alt night now in its 13th year, spanning indie, rock'n'roll, punk, post-punk, grunge and Britpop. Open Tuesday to Sunday, 11pm–3am, with occasional daytime events. Casual, alternative dress code; fiercely independent and unapologetically underground.
