Enjoy authentic Italian cuisine at the charming Sonnys Italia. They serve a menu bursting with tasty dishes plus a good selection of beer, wines and spirits.

We tried to get seated in a few restaurants in Tynemouth (expecting to have no trouble on a Wednesday night) and every one of them was full to capacity. After trying every place in Tynemouth we walked into Sonny's - it was dead - really that should have been an indication of what the food was going to be like - but we were hungry and wet and thought hey ho we'll eat here. NEVER AGAIN. I don't know what they'd done to my Pate starter but it tasted like they had mixed a jar of paste into it (to make it last longer??) The calzone I had was cold, rock hard and just about inedible. The pasta my friend had was also cold and tasted of stale cheese. We waited over 30 minutes for our starters! The wine was good though.... We will never, ever eat here again. Avoid this place like the plague. Their menu is confused at best and the food is worse.

We went for a birthday meal, 6 people. It took over 3 hours for us to be service a 3 course meal and that wasn't us sitting talking it the time it took for our food to come and for our orders to be taken. They offered a 20% off the next time we go! Mmmmm no I don't think so. We wont be given them another penny. I had heard bad reviews about Sonny's but though no itll be ok. Next time I will take not of the reviews. They blamed the slow service on training up a new person. Well don't train them up on a busy Saturday night and I'm sure there was more than 1 person serving! There are plenty of other places in Tynemouth where you will get much better service.
